The Oregon Ocean Alliance thanks Governor Kotek for her proactive leadership in championing climate action for the resilience of Oregon’s working lands and waters through Executive Order 25-26. This order marks a meaningful step toward building a resilient future for Oregon’s natural ecosystems, and lends significant support in advancing our priorities for conserving marine and coastal habitats.
We are excited to see the Oregon Ocean Policy Advisory Council, the Oregon Ocean Science Trust, and Oregon Sea Grant identified as trusted partners in evaluating and supporting initiatives focused on long-term climate resilience of nearshore and marine resources.
In the wake of reduced federal funding and state budget constraints, this executive order serves as a framework for how the state can prioritize climate resiliency efforts in state natural resource agency budgets. The Oregon Ocean Alliance looks forward to partnering with state natural resource agencies to translate these directives into actionable strategies that strengthen and sustain Oregon’s ocean and coastal ecosystems for the future.
